Hair Styling Education

Francesco Gurnari was born in Connecticut, a Gen-Z’er who grew up in a technology-driven world. He was active in sports, was a member of his high school Lacrosse team, and worked as a lifeguard at the local beaches during the summer. He also excelled academically and attended Dean College in Massachusetts, where he received high honors. After college, Francesco decided to enter the cosmetology field, following several family members’ steps. He enrolled in the Toni & Guy Hairdressing Academy in Newtown, CT., an institution known for providing instruction in the latest hairstyling techniques and prioritizing a hands-on approach to learning. This began his journey in the hairstyling industry, where he has since gained over 15 years of experience and extensive technical knowledge.

After earning his cosmetology license, Francesco studied at the Vidal Sassoon School and the Nick Arrojo Academy in New York City. This school is America’s largest wholly independent hairdressing brand and has been instrumental in shaping the careers of many top-rated hair stylists. While here, Gurnari would receive advanced education in cosmetology, barbering, and esthetics within a state-of-the-art facility with small classes in SoHo, the epicenter of the fashion, beauty, and style industries. 

Francesco recognized the skyrocketing popularity of Balayage, a freehand hair coloring technique that creates a soft, beach-hair look with multiple layers of highlighting, so he enrolled in Goldwell’s Master Colorist Program. Here, he would become a member of an elite group of hair colorists skilled in the science and art of advanced hair coloring techniques.

Expert in Precision Cuts

While men’s hairstyling remained consistently standard over many decades, it was the Gen-Z era when men’s hairstyles were freed from previous social norms. Francesco was a part of this new trend in men’s high fashion, which included hairstyles that at first became more geometric, with a focus on clean lines, then progressed to hairstyles that featured motion and shapes that were sometimes more relaxed and unstructured.

Gurnari is a master in men’s precision haircuts, including the textured crop with fringe, the messy quiff, and the updated crew cut. To become a precision haircutting artist, Francesco trained with a wide range of styling products and different hair structures, taking years to master this highly sought-after skill. In addition to his high technical expertise, he has an eye for detail and creativity, fashioning a haircut that meets the client’s vision for both a modern and unique look. Francesco takes his inspiration from several trendsetters in men’s fashion, including Vidal Sassoon, Jon Peters, and Nick Arrojo.

Francesco Gurnari has witnessed the transition of men who prefer to visit a hairstylist over a barber. This trend inspired him to attend the Goldwell Master Colorist Program to conquer the new Balayage’s color layering techniques, which include highlights, lowlights, and face-framing colors that have become very popular for both men and women. His mastery of color theory is exceptional, with the ability to provide color correction to fix a hair dye mishap or correct an undesirable shade or uneven tones.

Personal Life

Francesco has always been passionate about giving back to the community, even volunteering at St. Baldrick every year in high school. He often participates in Cut-A-Thons to raise money for different charities and donates his services to people who cannot afford haircuts.
